Passage Eight

“You were almost late. I’m ashamed of you!” called an Elder, Roush. “Messing around with a nineteen year old human I presume. Tanya, as such a talented werewolf, I’m ashamed to see you falling in love with someone not even our species!” Tanya’s emotion was hard to read, but as her friend, I could see she was glaring at Roush.
Sunny, a werewolf bully, stalked over to us and plopped down next to Tanya.
“Nice going tiger, you made Grandpa mad!” she teased. She scratched at Tanya’s face and stalked away, her nose to her tail perked up high in the night sky.
“Oh that Sunny!” I hissed, spitting onto the dirt. My claws were clenched, making my soft paws starting to bleed. I relaxed to the pain, and glared at Sunny, sitting next to my own brother, Tray. Tray was nuzzling her and telling her something. Even I knew he was telling her that she needed to stop bothering us. Sunny would just say ‘Ok,’ but continue to bully anyways.
“We are here to discuss a very important topic: humans. They are beginning to discover us in the smallest ways possible. Hunters and trappers are even entering our sacred forest just to prove we’re real. We must start having patrols, and werewolves must stay in wolf form unless our pack leader says otherwise,” Roush hissed, turning around towards Tom, who nodded.
“It is about time you all knew of our beginning. Wolves crawled through the forests, keeping their minds on their prey and natural way of life. Humans started realizing that wolves might be dangerous, and killed them whenever they could. To protect themselves, wolves started moving deeper and deeper into the forests.
