Passage Six

He pointed it at Tanya, who gasped and tore at him. She dove at him and when he shot, she dodged it. She slashed his face, and he fell to the ground. Tony, scared stiff, wheeled around and ran for his life. That’s when I jumped onto his back, making him fall to the ground.
“You’d better stop bothering us, and if you want to get out of here alive, I’d suggest telling the media you were both just fools messing around and telling stories,” I hissed in his ear, even I surprised at the fact that I was speaking plain English in wolf form.
“Y-y-you got it…sir,” Tony shivered, and squiggled out of my grasp. “Fred, you fool! These are just plain wolves that are starve-ridden! That’s it! I’m out of here you big fat liar!” He wheeled around and marched out of the forest, not turning to even pick up his shotgun.
“Get back here Tony! Tony!!!” screamed Fred. Police cars were skidding up the street, and an ambulance almost crashed into a light post, which I found ironic. Me and Tanya looked at each other.
“Time for us to go!” Tanya giggled, and we raced off into the forest. She shook her head, and I felt the wind fly through my ears. We ran towards the grocery store, acting harmless. By the time we got there, the streets were empty. We turned back into humans and ran to catch the last hour of the grocery store.
We ran up one aisle, down the next, grabbing this and that. Finally, we walked up to the cash register, five minutes left to buy the stuff.
“Hey. You want me to bag those things for you?” asked the guy at the cash register. Tanya giggled and looked at me with a weird expression on her face. She rarely giggled, so this meant something must be either funny, or she was just acting childish.
“He’s checking you out,” she whispered in my ear very quietly. I stared back at her, and she bobbed her head up and down as if I were happy about it.
“That’s disgusting!” I whispered back to her, the dude at the cash register finishing to scan the last item.
“You really think so? I think he’s kind of cute!” she replied, and I looked back towards the cashier. He had dark blond hair, brown eyes which kept on his work, a little bit of scruff on his chin, a normal sized nose, and rather tight lips.
“I would think he’s more interested in you Tanya,” I whispered to her after trying to see what she meant. He was only a little handsome, and I wouldn’t, like, go out with him or anything!
“Oh no! He was definitely checking you out!” she said promptly, and picked up some of the bags. I picked up another one, and the cashier put his hand on mine.
